Print demo
Taking part in the Dulwich Open House on Saturday 9th May 2026, I did a print demo with a one colour version of my butterfly composite print. It was a really helpful experience for me talking to the other print makers at Sonsoles and visitors to the print studio on Saturday.
I needed to work out how to explain my work and in particular my inspiration for my prints. I am particulary interested in life cycle at the moment and was inspired by the butterfly house at the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill where you can see the circular life span of the butterflies, from caterpillar to chrysalis, before hatching into a butterfly. The butterflies there are very beautiful and very colourful, vibrant blues, yellows, reds and orange.
The print is a composite of gel plate marks from laser copies of the butterflies, rorschach ink blots, French text and images of cistus flowers. The print is also inspired by the many collages that I work on at home and on holiday in France.
I love collecting packaging, till receipts, old books, and using these as well as creating painted marks, gel plate prints and Japanese papers in my collage.
